Will 2026 be the Year of the Linux Desktop? Who knows? With phones and
tablets, does the question even make sense anymore? Doug Moen is of
the opinion that if we are to have a Year of the Linux Desktop, we
need desktops that are easy to use and maintain, and he thinks atomic
Linux distributions such as Fedora Kinoite that offer atomic,
roll-backable upgrades are a key component to a good desktop
experience. In that vein, he will be sharing his experiences with
Fedora Atomic Linux distros, and arguing why they are a gamechanger.

Will 2026 be the Year of Linux Containers? Some might argue that this
year happened in 2015 or so, but there is still more to go. Mikalai
Birukou has been on a containerization journey that started (?) with
LXC and has moved to its successor Incus. Mikalai will tell us about
what Incus is, why it was necessary, and what it does to improve Linux
containerization.

(Eagle-eyed KWLUG members will note that we originally had a Marp
presentation scheduled for January. Unfortunately our presenter Megan
was unable to present this month, so we will reschedule that talk.)

These presentations begin at 7pm, after meeting announcements.

Our next dinner-only meetup is scheduled for Monday, Jan 19, at Crabby
Joe's in Kitchener. RSVP to dinner at kwlug.org if you would like to
participate. (Also: we are on the lookout for new restaurants for
2026. They need to serve decent food, be open until 9pm or later, and
preferably be reachable by transit. If you have suggestions send them
to me and I will pass them on, or suggest them on the kwlug-disc
list.)

That's all I got. We will meet in-person at DC 1568 at the Davis
Centre library, and online at
https://webconference.kwlug.org/room/kwlug . It seems that a bad flu
is going around, so if you are not feeling well stay home and join us
online.

- Paul
