[kwlug-announce] Meeting Monday, 7pm: Pioreactor, postmarketOS (Sept 2026)

If you like tech events then September is the month for you. This
month is packed with meetups, and since several of them are happening
this weekend I am sending out the meeting announcement a little
earlier than usual.

First up is KWLUG's contributions to the cause. Our tech-oriented
meeting will be held Monday starting at 7pm. Cameron Davidson-Pilon
will give us some updates on his local startup Pioreactor,
which uses Raspberry Pis to control bioreactors for biological
experiments. In addition, Chris Irwin will tell us how to run Linux
(actual Linux, based on Alpine Linux) on mobile devices. 

Our September meetup is part of Waterloo Tech Week, which requests
that we include the following blurb in our publicity:

In addition to our meeting Monday we have another restaurant-only
meetup booked at the Huether Hotel for Wednesday, Sept 30. The hope is
to have one more dinner on the patio. RSVP to dinner at kwlug.org if you

There are a lot of Waterloo Tech Week events but there is more
happening as well. 

- The World of Retro Computing is holding its 2026 Expo at the
  University of Waterloo on Saturday and Sunday. See more at

- The Waterloo Maker Faire is scheduled for Sunday in Waterloo Public

- The sorely-missed KW Cybersecurity meetup is rising from the ashes
  and is being revived as the "Infosec and Privacy Salon". They are

That's what I got for now, except for one quality of life
announcement. Those of you who have attended KWLUG meetings virtually
have probably noticed our struggles with audio quality over the past
few months. We are trying out a new sound setup (In September?! During
Waterloo Tech Week?! Are we nuts?!) which hopefully will improve the
sound quality quite a bit. So if you have wanted to attend meetings
virtually but have been turned off by the audio quality you might want
to try again. (Also, our apologies for the degraded quality; it is our
goal to make virtual attendance no worse than it was during the
pandemic, even if it cannot be as rich as attending in-person.) 

Our meeting will start at 7pm. We will hold it online at

at the Davis Centre Library.
