Here is one that matters a lot: NO VENDOR LOCK IN!
If you use open source, you often have several options for support, whether
it is in house, community support or a choice from several consulting
outfits.
If you are a small shop, you can make do with community support, using
the forums or IRC. If you have in house know how, they have access to the
above, plus access to the source code and the freedom to modify it (and
hopefully submit back the changes). If you have a VAR or consulting outfit,
and you don't like them for whatever reason, you are not limited to them,
and can go to other consulting firms for support.
You are never locked in by support, or by proprietary formats, or lack
of access to the source (to you, the user, your staff, or your consultants).
