[kwlug-disc] is it just me, or is debian package management painful?

i realize that. and i'm still unsure as to how to do what i
described above. is there a way?

and, again, that doesn't answer my question. i appreciate that
there may be things i want to do that are arcane and obscure, but i
don't think the above operations qualify. i think they're pretty
straightforward. and i don't see how to do them.
