[kwlug-disc] why would you do "apt-get dist-upgrade" regularly?

You want to run:

apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

on a regular basis.  This will keep your system up to date within the
current release.

Blindly using dist-upgrade regularly is not a good idea.  If a new
release happened to come out, you would find yourself swept forward.
While that is a positive, it is not a casual package refresh and should
be planned ahead of time. Things tend(ed) to break...

With a desktop system, all this is passe.  The package manager will come
to you with upgrades on a regular basis and will inform you of potential
 distribution upgrades which you can select with a click.
