I like the analogy to a carpentry workshop. If I was interested in
carpentry _right now_, I'd want to have a place to go where I
could network with Old Hat carpenters to get hints, and make sure
I don't reinvent the wheel, that kind of thing.

Similarly for, uh, "Hacking". Obviously the dynamic would be a little
different in this field, but the core motivations are still there.
