FWIW ... downloaded the latest (9.10) MythBuntu CD.
Just tried to boot the CD standalone to have a gander. On my laptop,
get squiggly lines, and nothing. With safe graphics, get a blank
screen. On a desktop the same. I suspect the 9.10 CD install problems
described in other threads, not so much MythBuntu itself.
Actually, on the laptop I get the bouncing TV graphic, but it doesn't
get beyond that.
FWIW if/when you choose that route / get that far. Hopefully you have
better luck.
