It's familiar. Desktop Linux deals with Samba well already. Setting up
smb.conf can be kind of atrocious, but you can copy and paste from previous
configurations you have made.

We have such a setup. One Ubuntu server, two desktops. I don't know
how well this kind of thing scales but it is good enough to get the
job done. 

Other than NFS, are there other good alternatives?
