I was using Opera and it said something like "Sorry, we don't know if it works with your browser so we better don't let you use the site" (Not exactly that but to that effect)
I mean, shouldn't I be the one to decide if I want to try or not?

I'm very critical of sites that are browser specific, or Flash-dependent, or Javascript-dependent. http://pickuppal.com *is* Javascript-dependent, but otherwise works fine in Firefox 3.5 on Ubuntu 9.10...
The Javascript-dependence is unfortunate, as I can't see any reason for it. Yes, the Google slippy-map is nice, but it could (and should) also be rendered as a static image. But depending on Javascript to click the form buttons is just poor Web design.
And, for a Web2.0 site it's remarkably lacking in protocols like OpenID, Atom/RSS, iCal, and microformats.
