i have a new install of ubuntu server 10.04 beta on a laptop, and
the little wireless monitor light is lit so it obviously at least
detects nearby wireless before any net config is done. the question:
can i configure and activate wireless without actually editing
/etc/network/interfaces? as in, do it all from the command line?
i know that if i simply add the line
  iface wlan0 inet dhcp
to /etc/network/interfaces, then i can use a combination of
iwconfig and ifconfig to fire up wireless. but, if i understand it
correctly, i still have to have at least that entry in the interfaces
file. or do i?
