I'll just add that DDG was created and is run by one guy (Gabriel Weinberg), and he explains the search engine's architecture at http://www.gabrielweinberg.com/blog/2009/03/duck-duck-go-architecture.html
He hangs out in Hacker News http://news.ycombinator.com/ as epi0Bauqu and for feedback perhaps the best place is the DDG community site http://duck.co/

A search engine should never require Javascript. It's not that hard a job.
Me too, initially. I am a fan of the NoScript FireFox extension.
But they have this zero click feature that works well, and requires Javascript.
If I were to do it, it would degrade gracefully, with a warning that certain features
would not work without Javascript.
Actually, I just sent them feedback to that effect. Please do the same ...
