Well, you asked... :-)

You missed Paul's 'make-kpkg' suggestion, as far as I can tell.

People searching for Ubuntu-specific tips will likely want to know how
to make a .deb, so they can uninstall with glee.

I do understand that the first tendency of a pure kernel geek is
"I don't need no steekin' binary package wrapper for my kernel."
I had that tendency myself.  But after figuring it out and scripting the
process (not much of a script actually), it does make things easier,
and more debian.
