I had heard something a while ago that some provider could make money
terminating calls. They would earn a portion of the long distance charges
for incoming calls. Shaving toll charges if you will.
Rest assured they are making money somehow. Maybe they are collecting
demographic info and selling it and your phone number. Perhaps the softphone
is also collecting web usage stats and other info like email.
There is a business model there somewhere.

I've never heard of them before. Anyone know anything about them?
I am not shilling but you can look at the parent company Fibernetics at:

software app installed on a PC.
What I do not see is the business model, i.e. how do they make money?

Softphone Configuration
What do I need to do to get the softphone functioning properly after
installing it?
Our softphone operates on UDP ports 13000, 13001, 5060, 5061, 6060 and 6061.
Please make sure these ports are opened in any firewall, internet security
suites and hardware routers you may have in your home.
What’s the catch? Do I need to enter a password, PIN number or listen to
advertisements before I make my free call?
NEVER! We offer you free phone lines with zero catches. There will never be
advertising, tricky dialling procedures or any other catches when it comes
to making your free calls!
FYI: Fibernetics is also the parent company of 295.ca, <http://295.ca/>
