Inexperienced developers result in subpar code.

If your application is local, security issues are bad, but may not be
critical.

Once an application is on the open internet, things become more interesting
...

This may not be a bad thing depending on how they react. Open source works
via nurturing a community, and getting feedback (and volunteers) from it.

Again, what matters is open protocols and APIs. If they exist, anyone can
build something around them. Individual implementations should not matter
