Not necessarily.

Forks are often a reaction to something.

If they have the support of most developers then the fork can supersede
the original.

This happened when Joomla was born from Mambo Server.

Will I be able to move to this new distro seamlessly?  How seasoned are

Remains to be seen how this Mandriva fork will pan out.

Disclosure: I abandoned Mandriva about 5 years ago for KDE Ubuntu and never
looked back.
