- FreedomBox

FreedomBox [1] is a project to build an easy to use plug computer based P2P  
communication device which supports freedom and individual privacy.

It began from a presentation and thesis [2] by FLOSS lawyer Eben Moglen. He  
argues that we are trading too much control and personal information for  
communication and social networking services.

Many other projects have already implemented the parts which are needed, and  
the FreedomBox will integrate them and present them in a way that everyone  
can use.

Better privacy and control over your own data show not be only for tech  
experts, but for everyone.

Donations [3] can be made to the FreedomBox Foundation [4].

(A recent presentation [5] during DebConf11 [6] describes the current state  
of the project.)

- MusicBrainz

Musicbrainz [7] is a project building a creative commons database of  
music(specifically cd) metadata. They also make all of the software that they  
use to maintain this database available as GPL.

Musicbrainz is used by many audio related FLOSS projects. [8]

CDs might be declining, but they are not dead-yet and you probably still have  
some ripping to do. This project makes is easier in a FLOSS-y way.

Donations [9] can be made to MetaBrainz [10] a non-profit foundation which  
maintains the MusicBrainz project.
