I still think fiddling with some WiFi stuff sounds like fun, even if its just a connection between some LUG members and doesn't ultimately lead to the internet. Think of it as a wireless BBS.

Anyone up for seeing how cheaply this can be done?  I might be interesting to see just how far we can reliably throw a WiFi signal with some homebrew antennas.  We can always use a VPN to join distant members. 

I have two 'spare' routers, both easily flashable with Tomato or DD-WRT. Anyone have experience building cantennas?

Doesn't seem like a mature project yet. Providing a link to the host at 
127.0.0.1 gives me reason to doubt their technical chops.
