Translating to Gnome:
* Alt-F2 (this'll work if you're using Gnome 2 or Unity, probably Gnome
3, but i haven't tried) as above
* Type 'gksu nautilus' to get a file window open as root (after you
enter your password, of course).
* Navigate to your root-owned destination directory.
* Then you can copy the file from any other nautilus window to the root one.
