[kwlug-disc] Drupal issue my Google-Fu is not strong enough to answer apparently

I did not copy the two hidden files when I moved the installation. I
have now moved .htaccess and .gitignore. They are now in the same
directory as the root of the drupal install, which is /var/www (I have
no need for the WWW server on this system beyond this test site).
Doing so did not help the problem, even after an apache restart and
page refresh.
I think that apache is configured for use of .htaccess. I found
AccessFileName .htaccess in the apache2.conf file, and there is not an
AllowOverride to be found, which from my understanding of the
documentation I found means it defaults to ALL.
