 This caused perhaps the most enjoyable 30 minutes of googling I've done 
 in some time.

 For people who want to try fighting with linux on non x86, I'm pretty 
 sure gentoo is possible on the HP c8000's. (and supported as recently as 
 kernel 3.11)
