[kwlug-disc] Ubuntu 12.04 LTS localhost* and internet fail - where to start^h^h^h^h^h continue?

FF: HTTP error "unable to connect' (404?).
'netstat localhost' returns lots of hits in the form:
unix 3 [ ] STREAM ....
and a few in the form:
unix 3 [ ] DGRAM
None of the hits appear to be Apache.
Tried: 'netstat localhost | grep -i apache"
NADDA
Looks like Apache is broken
