[kwlug-disc] Ooma and leaving Bell

I'm not sure if I posted the news or not, but yes, I did get my Ooma Telo via Amazon.ca last week and hooked it up last weekend.
So far, so good.  Sound quality is good.  Setup was easy enough once the software updates rolled out.  Currently running with a temporary number until we decide to port my Bell number over.
I'm very impressed with the online dashboard.  I never considered going to a website to get my voicemail messages; it's a nifty-neato feature.
I think I will order one of the dedicated Ooma handsets to go along with the POTS phones I have hooked up now.
Thanks to the guys here who helped me get started with this.

Well, we now know for sure the referral coupon does not work.

And while I got the number from the Canadian website, it was an American who answered the phone and told me that they don't ship to Canada, but I could buy it from Future Shop, which I could do for $150, but some quick checking I found it on Amazon.ca for $130, with free shipping if I don't mind waiting a week.

So I'm camping out in front the post office for the rest of the week...
No need to get it shipped and all that.

The Ooma Telo is in stock at BestBuy Kitchener for $130, with the bluetooth adaptor included for free (which I have, but never used, but may be of use to someone else)

Once it comes in, I'm assuming that I phone Ooma again to get my number ported and the rest of the registration stuff.

Well, you can go through the trial period which is 60 days (I think), and is basically their Premier service before you decide to cut the copper, and then at the end of the trial period you fill in a form on their web site to transfer the number. If you sign up for a year's worth of Premier ($120), you get the number transfer free. Otherwise, you pay $40 for the transfer.
