Depends upon the nature of the special interest. Can you give some more
information?
e.g. Technology based? Audience - old hacks, people new to it? Local,
region, province, national, international?
Probably the first step would be to gather those interested,
electronically, such as a google group, to figure out how to go forward
- who will do what, when. Understanding that anything you do this early
will inevitably be replaced once you figure out things more fully. e.g.
The google group may have a lifespan of only a few weeks or months.
If you go into it knowing you can't do it all, all by yourself, it will
help orient things on a community basis, not a single person, from the
get go. And also help nix everyone looking to you for everything. You'll
need to be diligent at not doing it all, being inclusive, and if the
load isn't well shared bail sooner rather than later. Or burn out. You
have been warned.
The one thing kwlug has been diligent, to far more good than bad, is
completely nixed any involvement with 'icky money'.
I'm not really sure just how different kwlug would be if it had started
early with icky money, and thus treasurer, secretary, president, and so
on, but it sure has avoided a lot of necessary administrative
documentation and structure by doing so.
Along the way, there have been some sponsors, especially Net Direct
(Thank you John!), so you may want to keep an eye out for such early on.
Meeting space, marketing, other necessary stuff, can thus get covered
when needed, while still avoiding icky money.
