Thanks for the mention!
I begin with an openVPN tunnel to extend the remote network to me.
Once there, then I can ssh into specific machines, as necessary. In
the rare instance that I need the display, I can use ssh -Y. If I need
a desktop, and this is very very rare, then I can use xrdp.
Thankfully, with linux, I can automate much of the care and feeding,
and collect up anything abnormal in an hourly logreport.
Unlike you, though, they're all my responsibilities. For better or for
worse!
