[kwlug-disc] Where to fix an Acer A500 tablet?

What he has been saying more than anything else is: never done it, don't know how, don't have confidence in figuring it out (in a reasonable time frame).
So, if he or someone brings a gun to a meeting, will someone who has done this help him out there, bake it on premises, or take it from his hands / home and give it a whirl?
He's indicated it's up for parts now, so if there is no success or it's made worse he's said he's ok with that and still worth the attempt.
So, will someone hands on help him out with this?

I'm sure you could rent one cheaply
at home hardware. I rented one a few years ago for ~$10

A heat gun is an industrial version of a home hair-dryer.
Except the
intent is careful control of air currents that are hot
enough to melt
solder on a circuit board, or to peel old paint off of
furniture.
Expensive heat guns come with an array of
component-shape-specific
air-dams to make sure that components are shielded from the
heat while
melting the solder.
Does that help?
