More than making the cable weatherproof, dressing of the cable and 
connector is very important.
This is more than an matter of a good electrical connection.
The RF performance of the cable / connector assembly comes into play.
IMO The length of the cable at 100 ft vs 20 ft should not be a factor 
and you risk losing the whole thing if you much with the factory 
installed connectors.
