[kwlug-disc] What is all this about systemd?

I do my laptop backup using cron without systemd.
I have an rsync job that runs a script twice every hour between 8 am
and 11 pm. It just does rsync to the server which gets backed up
daily.
Inside the script, there is a timestamp file containing the date this
is completed.
Subsequent invocations of the script do not do a backup if they find
the timestamp file.
So no matter what time I power on the laptop, it gets backed up at
least once a day.
Works regardless of the specific desktop I am using, or lackthereof.
If I switch from KDE to xubuntu, this will continue to work.
