[kwlug-disc] UPS + separate external battery?

While this isn't a cheap(er) option, there are inverter/chargers with pure
sine wave, and the ability to auto transfer between mains and battery.
Tripp-lite makes some decent ones that can be hard-wired to 120v.

It's definitely not a kludged solution. You still need some decent deep
cycle batteries... but it's another solution. :)
