[kwlug-disc] Shopping for Bluetooth headphone... which brand?

Did you want a microphone with the headphones as well? It's been my
experience that BT headphones have poor audio quality as far as the
microphone is concerned, i.e. people listening to me on Skype or whatever
have a hard time hearing me. As I understand it, it's because the
microphone sharing the BT airwaves/bandwidth with the earphones. So that's
an issues to watch out for. Some headphones compensate by reducing the
earpiece quality when the microphone is active but that doesn't completely
solve the problem. I imagine some higher-end headphones have some sort of
signal booster but that's beyond my pay grade.

If you plan on doing a lot of conference calls and need a microphone, try
to get a boom mic that swings off of the earpiece. The "hole in the
earpiece" type just doesn't cut it well.

One other minor annoyance with BT headphones: if you're watching people
speaking, for example in a youtube video, the audio doesn't sync with the
video. There's a noticeable lag between when the speaker's lips move and
when you actually hear the sound. For someone like me who's half deaf
already, it can be rather annoying.

Both of these issues can be resolved by just flipping the headphones over
to a wired USB connection.

For the record I'm using the Bluedio T4 (Turbine) Bluetooth 4.2 Stereo
Headphones (Amazon:
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B06XHBV8H2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
)
They have pretty good audio sound for listening to music. I got these
after I returned a pair of MPOW's that just irked me too much...
