[kwlug-disc] How do I completely remove the lock screen on Ubuntu 18.04 Desktop

I have a laptop that I've installed Ubuntu 18.04 on and I love the whole
experience but I find myself frustrated by how slow the lock screen is
whenever I re-open the laptop it takes a full 30 seconds or so to recover
from being closed.  This is really quite irritating to me because I
basically go out of my way to avoid using any kind of login authentication
despite basically having seemingly no ability to completely go
password-less.
