[kwlug-disc] laptops with Linux preinstalled

Personally, I would go for Thinkpads such as the T450s/T460s on the used
market. They are light(sub-3lbs) and decently upgradeable(RAM and SSD),
just make sure that you have one with a tight charging port and an IPS
screen.

I have had 7 units of the T470s developing a swollen internal batt from a
population of 55 units. Not a good stat.
The T490s in gorgeously slim and bright(IPS again) but the RAM in soldered
and stock of 16G-equipped T490s are few and far between with Lenovo
charging a pretty penny because they can.

I see this on Kijiji--

I would bet that seller will accept 450 in these here Covid-ridden times.

The T450s has been a remarkably robust edition, population of 85 units,
only 1 failure of a Hynix RAM module(rapidly replaced by a Crucial).

I have Debian on a whole host of TPs ranging in age from 12yo to 3yo and
ZERO issues with any cuts of Linux. I do make a point of turning off crud
like secure boot and eufi-only settings in the BIOS, life is easier that
way.

FWIW.

Thanks,

Ron S.
