For me, Mint is just an Ubuntu variant, and that means they rely on Ubuntu
repositories.
So it has two levels of separation from Debian's distro/repos.

Another thing I don't consider Mint for, is that they don't have a widely
used server edition that is available at hosting companies. The uniformity
of experience that I have with Xubuntu on the desktop and Ubuntu server on
servers is priceless ...
