[kwlug-disc] Ecobee thermostat with Home Assistant

I finally got to view the presentation on Zigbee MQTT with Home Assistant.
Thanks a lot to the presenter.

It seems there are at least two other people who use an Ecobee with Home
Assistant
on this mailing list.

I also have the Ecobee, but I never signed up for an account with them, and
use the
HomeKit Controller integration to interface with the thermostat.

So: it works, without needing an online connection to "the cloud", which is
how I run
everything under Home Assistant.

The thermostat still has access to the internet, so it probably updates its
firmware
automatically behind my back. I have not put it in a DMZ or blocked it from
accessing
the internet, since I did not get around to investigating how it is done,
and what possible
drawbacks there would be.
