[kwlug-disc] m.2 data loss?

Has anyone experienced issues with data loss on a new m.2 drive? I
installed a Samsung 980 NVMe m.2 drive a couple of days ago, installed
Xubuntu 20.04 and set up some software. I had somewhere to go this
morning and turned my system off. When I came back in the afternoon
and turned things back on it seemed almost as if my .config directory
became corrupted as a lot of software wasn't recognizing saved
credentials (Steam, MakeMKV registration was gone, Firefox was as if
it was refreshed). I had a look at auth.log and nothing looks
suspicious, and I had the machine off, so I don't think it's an issue
of being hacked.

Are there other things I might check?
