Interesting - I had been messing about with DNS / DHCP / DDNS. Disabling 
bind/named & dhcpd didn't help, but it's definitely suspect.



Will keep investigating this angle.

Disabled PAM with UsePAM No in /etc/ssh/sshd_config, which fixes the 
timing issue for now.


But that feels dirty, so will investigate my DNS settings - I've 
probably broken something there.
