At around minute 46, speaker questions academia in not allowing the 
funner research. My feeling is that a mechanical level this is a result 
of publish-(fast)-or-perish operation. There is no time to have deep 
quality, hence, risky research.

In autumn of 2019, pre-pandemic, UofW had this near-or-related to 
defense event. And some grievances were expressed there, prompting me to 
ask a straight question from audience: "will publish-or-perish go away 
so that you'll do deeper research". I am stunned to this day at 
emotional reaction. Introduction of honest term "publish-or-perish" 
visibly relieved speakers in the panel, as if giving them license to 
talk openly, as if this elephant is a taboo. I guess, I am also stunned 
cause this was a defense area, the last place for bs.
