I've been a big fan of MX Linux  since first trying it.  Base is Debian
Stable, (using the actual Debian repos), but adds some extra repos for
the packages MX adds on top, in including backported newer kernels.
Virtualbox, a great boot manager that lets you choose between systemd
and SysV. etc.
