To the UEFI experts on this group ...

On my new laptop, the output from efibootmgr looks like below (hashes
replaced with
xxx for brevity). Note that I only have Linux on the NVME, and nothing else.

As you can see, it booted from the NVMe0 device (as evidenced by
BootCurrent),
and ignored the Ubuntu entry for some reason.

If I change the BootOrder to have 0011 first, a menu is displayed, with
Ubuntu first, then
NVME0, then PXE. If I select Ubuntu the screen blanks for a second, but it
goes back to
the menu again. Apparently, the Ubuntu entry fails.

Booting from NVMe0 works fine, so this is not a show stopper.
Just curious what is going on ...
