[kwlug-disc] VoIP.ms Softphone -- opinion?

Pretty cool they're developing their own soft phone. I haven't tried it
and it's apparently still in beta so I'd expect it's a bit rough. You can
read through the review comments to see what issues they are having. More
details here:
https://wiki.voip.ms/article/VoIP.ms_Softphone

They have a list of other soft phones here with feature comparison:

I've used Zoiper and it's pretty good. It is closed source I believe, and
requires a paid license for full functionality, but it is pretty full
featured on Android.

They also have a Linux desktop client, although it's not very up to date
and I don't believe they support Wayland properly yet. I've had some bugs
trying to get it to work in an emulation mode. This is what I was told when
I filed a ticket:

> The issue is due to the Wayland session that you are running at. If you
switch to X11 compatibility session, everything should be fine. Currently
we rely on some libraries that are either not compatible with Wayland or do
not have simple replacements.

> At the moment I cannot tell when support for Wayland will be provided.

> You may also disable the "Minimize on close" option from Zoiper →
Settings → Behaviour. That way the close button would exit Zoiper5.
