Yes, I too am surprised that plain text files have not yet been
deprecated or even banned -- although the people who program
social media apps these days probably think that text files are
as useless as pencil and paper.

I have a history with text files and vi similar to Doug's. And on
several occasions I have found it useful and easy to convert them
to Wiki files.
