Cost will depend on how many orders there are, since they have to amortize their fixed costs over all the orders. More orders is cheaper.

It's hard to compete price-wise against mass produced printers sold at a loss by “Big Ink”. So I expect you'll pay a premium for an open source, artisan printer with cheap ink.
