First, I would like to thank Paul for having the persistence, stamina and
patience to organize talks for 25 years or so.
I ran the Waterloo Region Drupal Users Group for 10 years, and I know how
much time and effort such things require.
You have to search for speakers, find a location, deal with cancellations,
...etc.
For the DUG, we took July, August off when we found that attendance was low
when school was out.
This was in the pre-virtual conferencing era, and it was all in person.
We also took December off because the meetings were on the third Thursday
of the month.
And many thanks also to the rest of the shadowy cabal who continue to help
with all this.
One thing that is an opportunity, is that Microsoft is leaving behind lots
of capable PCs that run Windows 10, and they say they can't run Windows 11.
A certain percentage of those people may be amenable to running Linux,
since their needs would very much be covered by Firefox and LibreOffice.
I don't know how best to do this.
If there was another shadowy cabal that coordinates across LUGs, there may
be a more concerted effort ...
Rather we (the FLOSS community at large) suffer from long
running fragmentation (be that in Desktop Environments, in Distros, and in
outreach and effort).
