Many reasons to run open firmware on your router ...
- You are not running the manufacturer's firmware, which usually
has anti-features (tracking/spying, data collection, backdoors, ...)
- Allows you to run various applications (list of packages by category
<https://openwrt.org/packages/index/start>), through a package system and
repositories
- You are are in control, just like when you run Linux on desktops or
servers
