Another shout for SSHFS.
I don't have a NAS, but I do share some directories on my home server using
SSHFS.
There is nothing to run on the server, if you already have OpenSSH on it.
All the configuration is on the client, at the time you mount the directory.
Yes, it can be slow in some cases (e.g. you are offsite and your file
manager wants to create thumbnails for a directory that has thousands of
photos).
Other than that, it works transparently, is stable, and low on resources.
I also use SFTP for my Android phone.
