I have a pretty large filesystem and running `ncdu` on some of the larger folders can take some time, so I setup a cron job to generate the `ncdu` JSON periodically so that I can instantly browse it. It\u2019s also useful in situations like the DBA\u2019s full drive, because a privileged user can run `ncdu` as root and output the file list and then pass that to the operator who can browse the file usage information whenever they\u2019d like without needing privileged access to read all the files.<div><br></div><div>Spencer<br id="lineBreakAtBeginningOfMessage"><div><br><blockquote type="cite"><div>On May 6, 2026, at 8:49\u202fPM, CrankyOldBugger <crankyoldbugger@gmail.com> wrote:</div><br class="Apple-interchange-newline"><div><div dir="ltr">'ncdu' is wonderful when some DBA sends me a ticket complaining that his drive is full.. </div><br><div class="gmail_quote gmail_quote_container"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Thu, 7 May 2026 at 00:31, Charles M <<a href="mailto:chaslinux@gmail.com">chaslinux@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div dir="auto"><div>I recently also used a new tool, ncdu, to visualize where all my space was going (timeshift restore points).</div><div><br></div><div><div dir="ltr"><div>Charles<br></div>Mastodon: @chaslinux@techhub.social</div></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Wed, May 6, 2026, 5:07\u202fp.m. William Park via kwlug-disc <<a href="mailto:kwlug-disc@kwlug.org" target="_blank">kwlug-disc@kwlug.org</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><u></u>
