<b>Solution</b>: After installing "hunspell-en-us" and
"hunspell-en-ca", spell check works. I see the red wavy line.

I came across "hunspell" a lot in my search, and I thought it was
just Hungary dictionary, so I skimmed over it. Well, it turns out,
Yes, it started out as Hungary spell checker. Now, it's generic,
and "hunspell-*" modules are used by other softwares for spelling
check. <br>

I thought at first I needed more package installed, but even with a
large whack of libre* packages, it didn't work.
But if I click Tools | Spelling... and then the Options button in that
dialog, I get option to "Get more dictionaries online...<a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="mailto:atthebottom.IinstalledEnglishandtheOxforddictionaryandclosedthedialog.Theseendedupunder~/.config/libreoffice/somwehere.ThenIclickedTools|Language|ForallText|English(USA).TherewasaCanadaoptiontoo,butitdidn'twork.TheUSAoneworked,immediatelyshowingredsquigglyunderlinesinmytestdocument.Goodluck.Itseemsabitfiddly.-Chris_______________________________________________kwlug-discmailinglistTounsubscribe,sendanemailtokwlug-disc-leave@kwlug.orgwiththesubject">" at the bottom.
I installed English and the Oxford dictionary and closed the dialog.
These ended up under ~/.config/libreoffice/ somwehere.
Then I clicked Tools | Language | For all Text | English (USA).
There was a Canada option too, but it didn't work. The USA one
worked, immediately showing red squiggly underlines in my test
document.
Good luck. It seems a bit fiddly.
