If someone wants a cheap weather station that also has an indoor display,
then look for Acurite brand ones on Kijiji and Marketplace.
For example, this $30 station
<https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1196783042365256/> looks
reasonable.
At a minimum you want outdoor temperature as well as humidity.
There are other stations that have more features, such as 5 in 1 (temp,
humidity, wind speed, wind direction, and rainfall).
Others are 7 in 1 (adds luminance and UV index).
But of course, they cost more.
The cheapest around is the Vevor 7in1
<https://www.vevor.ca/weather-station-c_12074/vevor-7-in-1-wireless-weather-station-7-5-in-large-color-display-digital-home-weather-station-indoor-outdoor-for-temperature-humidity-wind-speed-direction-rain-uv-with-forecast-data-alarm-alerts-p_010209398224>
.
You can also wait after the holidays as people would be selling gifts they
don't need.
Make sure that whatever you get is supported by rtl_433 decoding software
<https://github.com/merbanan/rtl_433/tree/master>.
If you have a tiny backyard and tall trees, many measurements will not be
accurate (e.g. wind speed and direction).
But for relative comparisons, that could be fine.
For all the above, you will need an RTL-SDR dongle (from AliExpress or
Amazon) plugged into your Home Assistant machine.
If you already have ZigBee or Z-Wave sensors, then you may want to consider
NOT going the RTL-SDR route, but your weather station will be limited (you
probably only get temperature and humidity).
