  as i do every so often, i once again asked the openwrt list about
the possibility of posting a page on "best of breed" -- that is, a
small list of routers that just plain *work* with openwrt.

  at the moment, the openwrt.org site has two supported device tables
(the old one and the new one), by alphabetical order with incredible
detail about each unit.  but that doesn't help the poor schmuck who
just wants to know, "which router should i buy?"

  in addition, the forums at the openwrt site, while educational, are
really only handly for people who want to *follow along* with the
travails of people getting openwrt working on a given model.  most
people, though, aren't interested in keeping up with the pain -- they
just want to know the end result.

  i'll keep you posted on what i hear back.
