[kwlug-disc] Ubuntu 12.04 LTS localhost* and internet fail - where to start?

Right, but shouldn't matter. None are going to give out public IPs via
DHCP. Feels more like a DHCP pass through situation.
Bridged or not, to Linux box, transparent. That it goes through an extra
hop is no nevermind to it. (Unless you have duplicate nets in the chain.
I hate 192.168.0/24!)
Some providers, not Roger's (?), which I think JJ is on (?), do provide
multiple IPs. So DHCP delivering a public IP is possible, if not likely
in this particular circumstance. Even the router in that case would have
to be in bridged mode. More likely modem to switch to number of
hosts/routers per number of ip's purchased, receiving IPs via ISP DHCP.
(And hosts behind routers receiving DHCP from router.)
But, and perhaps this is what's going on ... if Linux received public
IP, and not router it is connected to ... no wonder it can't get
anywhere. The rest of the world would reply to his pings somewhere
elsewhere on earth. A -> B -> C, not A -> B -> A.
Something wonky going on.
I think JJ has picked up on that. (-:
