For those trying something similar...

- You will get better throughput, if you connect the 2 laptops directly. 
  My router is supposed to be "gigabit" switch, but I never get Gbps.

- If laptops only have WiFi (most "new" laptops), then it helps to use 
separate bands to get full-duplex, eg. one using 2.4GHz, and another 5GHz.
